Siems Park Workday 8.18.20

A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped complete Siems Memorial Park Launch today in Union. We cemented in a bench and mounted 3 signs. Thank you to local businesses Team REIL and Marengo Signs for their excellent cooperation, items and our discount. We appreciate you! Now this launch is ready for the next rain deluge or spring, whichever comes first. Siems on west is a great spring paddle! Thank you to the Siems Team of Gary Thrall, Kevin Thrall, Tammi Sava, and Donna Cunzalo. Everyone contributed time, equipment and expertise to get the job done!

Siems Park Workday 8.6.20

New Launch pad at Siems Memorial Park in Union! On Tuesday 7 hardworking volunteers constructed a 4″ deep launch pad on the shore of the Kish, between the 2 ponds just past the gazebo. They cleared the site of brush and stumps, scraped off 4″ of soil, laid down landscaping cloth, spread out a GeoGrid, filled the compartments with gravel, then backfilled around the edges. It was a long 8 hour day for everyone! The launch follows all the guidelines of floodwater protocols, and should last through expected spring floods at the park. Signs and a bench to come in a week or so. Siems will be ready for awesome spring paddling! Right now the Kish is too low at this point for fun, but jump in from Deerpass and west! Thank you to all 7 Great volunteers that made this happen!!

ANIMAL ALERT: While working, the crew watched a 15 inch otter cruising around the shoreline, checking out our progress. Also, mussel shells were found on the lawn left from spring floods

Woodbine Launch Workday 7.12.20

The plan was to chainsaw trees, chip them and spread the chips in the low spots. We had wheelbarrows going away from the river with logs, and toward the river low spots with chips. Then Greg brought his trailer with one wall to catch the flying chips, and we were really in business!!

Spring Workday 4.17.21

We had a very productive spring workday! Thanks to all our volunteers, the Kish is currently navigable from Deerpass to Ritz Rd.
